Big Mean Sound Machine

Saturday night we had the pleasure of opening up a show at The Hollow in Albany for Big Mean Sound Machine. It was an amazing experience. Not only is The Hollow a great place to play but BMSM was an awesome band to play with. Boasting a 9 piece ensemble including a horn section, 2 keyboardists, guitar, bass, percussion and drums they brought enough energy and excitement to keep the place moving all night.

The Hollow is rapidly becoming a favorite venue in the Albany scene. They have an awesome stage, great sound and lights and a fantastic staff that bring it all together. The best part, however, are the fans. People turn up in droves when there’s a good show and Saturday was no exception. We saw lots of familiar faces and the dance floor was hopping all night.

Big Mean Sound Machine blew our minds! The drummers put down solid world / latin type beats while the horns, synths and guitar take turns laying down catchy melodies over top. The horn section included trombone and baritone sax that kept the low end bumping throughout. There was a plethora of effects in the keyboard corner that was constantly pumping out cool tunes and funky melodies, keeping everyone’s attention glued to the stage. The guitar is there to make sure everything has a rocking edge, and the mix of all that eclectic instrumentation makes these guys a must see for any music fan.

It’s been a great start to 2016 and we’ve got so much more left to come!

Blizzard of ’16

How about this crazy winter weather? We normally stay in by the fire once the weather gets rough but nothing can keep us away from a show at Grizzly’s on Stratton Mountain.

So we loaded up the van and drove straight into the eye of the tempest for our show on the slopes. We were bombarded the entire way by gentle flurries almost kind of obscuring the road. Luckily a good Samaritan in a 4 wheel drive Lexus SUV decided to put on his flashers and drive the whole length of Route 7 through central Vermont at 23 mph. We followed this gentleman for most of our ride, along with an enormous line of enraged but safe motorists. By the time the onslaught of whimsically floating snow flakes ended there was about an inch or less of accumulation on the roads. That’s the most I’ve seen all year!

Arriving safely at the venue, we quickly unloaded and set up. It was our first time at Grizzly’s at we were impressed by the great room, nice stage and beautiful bar. Our friend Andy greeted us and got us going with sounds before we began to indulge in delicious local craft beers on tap at the bar. We’ve had a bit of a hiatus and we’re super excited to get on stage so when the time came we blasted the room with a huge dose of pent up musical energy. Friends and patrons began to arrive and we had people started dancing.

Although the fearsome winter weather seems to have kept the crowds inside we had a blast dusting off the cobwebs and rocking out with everybody! Come see us tonight at The Hollow on N. Pearl St. in Albany tonight!

New Tunes

We had a killer practice tonight and we’re incredibly stoked about some new songs we’ve been working on! Everybody’s been writing and contributing and we have three brand new jams each with their own unique vibe. We’re a little while away from playing any out but we’re putting together a plan to get in the studio and hopefully by the spring we’ll have a new single hitting the airways!

Have you seen this?

We’re not going to get into politics here, but this week we stumbled across something that needs to be addressed. Apparently in the 80’s, while mayor of Burlington VT, Bernie Sanders recorded a folk album. Yes, it’s absolutely as amazing as it sounds. So whether you love him or hate him you’re gonna want to check this out.

Also, this seems like an appropriate time to share another nugget of internet gold that we found a while back. It’s about Albany and you’re gonna love it.

Photo Shoot

It’s winter in upstate NY and there’s still no snow on the ground. Yesterday we decided to take advantage of the near miss by winter storm Jonas and go on a little adventure. We did some urban hiking through various abandoned industrial buildings to scout out some future locations for our band Fight Club nights. (We’ve found it helps to relieve aggression before long road trips.) Luckily our friends Gigi and Kelly came along to take some photos of the excursion. We’ll have the pictures up very soon, so check back here and on facebook!

Happy New Year Everyone!

It was an epic 2015 with lots of good times and great jams. We’ve gone through some changes, made some new friends and we can’t wait to keep rocking in 2016.

We’re taking our time recovering from the holidays and relaxing by the fire but we’ll be back with great parties at the end of the month. Don’t miss out on our first ski trip of the season on January 29th at Grizzly’s Stratton Mtn! Then the next day we’re raging in Albany at the Hollow with Big Mean Sound Machine!
